3DGS Scans Gaussian Splatting (noun)

  1. A computer graphics technique for representing and rendering three-dimensional scenes by projecting overlapping, three-dimensional Gaussian functions (“splats”) into image space.
  2. A rendering trick that takes the humble point cloud and levels it up: each dot becomes a Gaussian blob with size, shape, and orientation. Stack millions of these blobs, and suddenly your scattered points stop looking like digital confetti and start behaving like a proper 3D surface.
